MISSION

American Indian Heritage Support Center founding voluntary board members are federally enrolled Shawnee, Kiowa, Cherokee, Muscogee-Creek, and Menominee. Eventually, we hope to cover the states of Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Kansas. We are currently looking for volunteer coordinators to represent Louisiana, and Kansas.

The purpose and specific objectives of our organization is to help preserve the varied histories, cultures, and sacred traditions of the American Indian people by:

a. Providing accurate sources of information to the public and private sector.

b. Promoting the understanding and awareness of the American Indian cultural heritage by the general public.

c. Hosting educational seminars on American Indian issues, cultures, and traditions.

d. Working with school districts to insure proper educational materials are provided in the teaching of American Indian history and cultures.

e. Identifying and warning the public of exploitation and misappropriation of traditions and sacred ceremonies to prevent the further dilution and destruction of American Indian cultures.

f. Acting as an intermediary, if asked, in matters of reparation of burial remains and sacred items.  Work towards the preservation of sacred grounds.

g. Providing information on accurate resources and referrals for individuals who are seeking their American Indian heritage.

h. Work with governmental agencies to ensure all programs that have been birthed by the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act in 1975 maintain the intent of Congress and are properly managed.

i. Establishing a working relationship with American Indian Tribes and organizations in the seven state regions to provide whatever support that is within our means on current issues in conjunction with the above objectives.
